Conference vision: The first ICSIH conference, back in 2012, was also held in Exeter with around eight presentations and 25 delegates all coming together in a single day! Our field has clearly taken huge strides in its evolution since then: at ICSIH6 in Limerick in 2024, there were more than 70 presentations spread across three days, a pre-conference workshop, and some 80 delegates in total.
For ICSIH7 we want to celebrate this growth, and together look towards the future of the field by encouraging a collective critical reflection on our progress and impact. To this end, we particularly encourage submissions that seek to take us beyond showing that social identity is important to health, which is now very well established, by considering how the social identity approach can be used in the active promotion of health and treatment of ill-health. Submissions that address the evolution and development of the theory within its applied health context, are also prioritised.

We have planned a range of activities and presentation formats that help us realise this vision and offer a platform that can help set the agenda for the next phase of our field’s development.
Presentations will take two formats:
➣ (i) research talks
➣ (ii) posters with blitz talk
These are equally prioritised by the Scientific Committee and we encourage submissions to both. Additionally, the conference will also host parallel breakout workshops, a panel discussion, keynote presentations, and a public lecture – all intended to stimulate engagement, group discussion and collective reflection.
Finally, a pre-conference workshop will allow participants to engage in in-depth exploration of contemporary topics. More detail on each format is provided in the accompanying documentation.
We look forward to welcoming you in Exeter in June 2026!
